Stones Most Suitable in your Home Bathroom

With the value that natural stone adds to the home as well as its natural durability and beauty, many homeowners and designers would agree that natural stone is an ideal material for bathroom surfaces. In our last post we discussed the different surface options for bathroom design and renovation. Now, we will offer up the different options when choosing natural stone surfaces for the bathroom. As advised by the Marble Institute of America and the National Kitchen & Bath Association, here are the stones most suitable for bathroom applications as well as the design possibilities with each.

Marble – The different colors, veins and swirls offer a traditional look
Granite – Comes in several variations and colors with veining similar to marble
Onyx – Found in a variety of white, warm and cool colors that look similar to marble
Quartz – Comes in many colors and patterns
Soapstone – Colors range from dark gray to bluish or greenish gray
Slate – Mostly found only in different shades of gray

Opting for one of these natural stones in tile-form is always a popular option which can slightly cut the cost of materials while adding style and texture to a bathroom design. Alternatives that should also be considered include engineered stones such as Caesarstone, recycled glass or ceramic surfaces such as Neolith Slabs.
